Ian Applegate joined the Saints Athletics family in July 2017, serving as Sports Information Director. Applegate will serve as the primary contact for all seven of the Saints athletic teams.
Applegate joins the Seward staff after spending the 2016-17 academic year as the Sports Information Student Assistant at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). While at IUPUI, he assisted with men's basketball, softball, tennis and golf primarily through creative content on social media, media guides and game stories. He also spent 2016-17 as a public relations intern at CHARGE, a sports marketing agency located in Indianapolis, Indiana. While at CHARGE, he was responsible for writing pitches to national news outlets for CHARGE clients, such as NASCAR.
Prior to IUPUI and CHARGE, Applegate was the Sports Information Student Assistant at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. As the student assistant, he assisted the Cardinals sports information staff with basketball, baseball and football. Applegate graduated from Ball State in May 2017 with his M.A. is Sport Administration.
Of Applegate's hiring, Seward Interim Director of Athletics Roy Allen said "In sports terms, we knocked it out of the park by adding Ian to our talented team. Saints fans will be seeing a very talented young SID that has the ability to really take things to the next level with his creativity and knowledge. We are all very excited to get Ian and his wife Leanne to Liberal to become a valuable addition to our community."
Applegate earned his B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University in 2014. While at IU, Applegate worked for WIUX, IU's official student radio station, where he hosted a weekly sports talk show and produced play-by-play for Hoosier basketball.
A native of Peru, Ind., he currently resides in Liberal with his wife Leanne.
