On a glorious day at Lady Saints Field in Liberal, the Seward County Lady Saints jumped on visiting Friends University early and never let up, hammering the Falcons JV squad 16-3 and 15-0 in a pair of run rule wins to improve to 8-3 on the year.
Seward got going early in game one against the Falcons as the first four hitters of the 1st inning reached base including an RBI single from Jullian Atteberry to get them on the board. They didn't stop there as Sage Harrison doubled to drive home two and another run scored on a Friends error to make it 4-0. After a single from Taylor Kathler, Seward put three more up on the board as Lexi Manyik crushed a home run to make it 7-0. The Lady Saints scored twice more in the inning, getting an RBI double from Kristyna Garcia and an RBI single from Sydney Epp to blow their lead up to 9-0 after one.
The Lady Saints were right back at it in the 2nd as they added four more runs, getting RBI knocks from Kathler, Macy Koontz, Garcia, and Epp to make it 13-0.
Seward starter Monique Ashley worked her third straight scoreless inning in the 3rd, striking out the side to keep it a 13-0 game.
Kaitlin Ammermann jacked a solo home run to start the Seward 3rd and Harrison followed suit with a bomb of her own to make it 15-0 Lady Saints.
Seward went to their bullpen and Friends took advantage, scoring three times in the 4th, but the Lady Saints got a run back in the bottom of the frame and then shut the Falcons down in the 5th to preserve the 16-3 run rule win.
The Lady Saints banged out 18 hits in the win, getting multiple hits from six different players. Garcia finished 4 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI's in the win. Harrison was a perfect 3 for 3 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored, and three RBI's. Ashley earned the win in the circle, spinning three no hit innings and striking out 7 of the 10 hitters she faced to improve to 3-1 on the year.
Again in game two, it didn't take long for the Lady Saints to take the early lead as Atteberry lifted a sac fly in the 1st to make it a 1-0 game.
The Lady Saints added to their lead in the 2nd as Koontz singled home a run and Leena Mortensen drove a two out double to the wall to score two more to make it 4-0.
The runs continued to pour in for Seward in the 3rd as Garcia singled home one and Atteberry cracked a three run home run to make it 10-0. After an Ammermann single, Harrison smoked her second bomb of the day to stretch the Lady Saints lead to 12-0.
Atteberry drove home two more in the 4th with her fifth hit of the day and a Friends error allowed another run to score to push the Seward lead to 15-0.
Epp came out of the Seward bullpen to toss a scoreless 5th and just like that the contest was over in a 15-0 run rule win for the Lady Saints.
Seward outhit the Falcons 11-2 in the win and took advantage of six Friends errors in the game. Atteberry finished 3 for 4 with a career best six RBI's while Harrison and Garcia each scored two and drove home two runs. Ruby Gonzalez earned the win on the mound for Seward, throwing four scoreless innings to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Lady Saints improve to 8-3 on the year with the sweep while Friends JV loses their first two games of the year.
Seward will return to the diamond on Friday when they host McCook in a 2:00 doubleheader at Lady Saints Field in Liberal in a makeup of a postponed twinbill from Tuesday.
