  • Veloso, Covane and Hernandez take next step in basketball journeys

    LIBERAL, Kan. – Lady Saints basketball players Silvia Veloso, Carla Covane and Lexi Hernandez will be continuing their basketball careers at four-year institutions in the fall. Covane and Veloso are heading to the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky while Hernandez is going to Mid-American Christian University in Oklahoma.

    LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward County Community College sophomore Kalen Green has decided to continue her basketball career at Division I Northwestern State University. Green signed her letter of intent on Tuesday in the All-American Room on the SCCC campus.

    LUBBOCK, Texas – The season is over for the Seward County Community College women’s basketball team. The Lady Saints were done in by the first and third quarters in their loss to the South Plains Lady Texans, 87-61, in the second round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament on Wednesday at the Rip Griffin Center.

    PARK CITY, Kan. – The second-ranked Seward County Community College women’s basketball team withstood a late charge and hung on to beat Barton Community College, 63-58, on Monday to advance to the Region VI championship game. The Lady Saints will play Butler Community College in the finals at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Hartman Arena.

    Carla Covane posted 17 points and 12 rebounds for a team-leading, seventh double-double and Silvia Veloso added 15 points to send the sixth-ranked Seward County Community College to its 19th straight win with a 65-60 triumph over the Colby Trojans at the Greenhouse.

    In a battle for first place in the Jayhawk West and two Top 10 teams, the No. 8 Seward County women’s basketball team came out on top in Hutchinson against the Blue Dragons 70-54 to hand Hutchinson their first loss of the season.

    The No. 8 Seward County women’s basketball team won their 14th straight game behind a flurry of three pointers, defeating the Northwest Tech Mavericks 93-77. The win pushed the Lady Saints to 20 wins for the 27th consecutive year, dating back to 1992.
  • Lady Saints Need Overtime to Beat Barton

    The No. 11 Seward County women’s basketball team survived another tough challenge on Saturday night, needing overtime to defeat the Barton Cougars 106-96.  The win pushed the Seward home win streak to 45 games as the Lady Saints now sit at 19-2 overall and 11-1 in the KJCCC.

    The No. 11 Seward County women’s basketball team overcame another halftime deficit to defeat the Colby Trojans 62-52 and win their 12th straight game.  The Lady Saints move to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

    The No. 11 Seward County Lady Saints made it tough on themselves again, overcoming a 15-point deficit for a second straight game to defeat the Dodge City Conquistadors 63-51.  The win marked the 10th straight for the Lady Saints.

    The No. 14 Seward County continued their strong play in December, pushing their win streak to four games with a 98-54 dismantling of the Coffeyville Red Ravens.  The win keeps the Lady Saints in the hunt to stay atop the Jayhawk Conference as they end the fall semester with a 4-1 KJCCC record.

    In an inconsistent game of runs, the No. 14 Seward County women’s basketball team eked out a victory over the Cowley Tigers 70-67 behind Aquila Mucubaquire’s career-high 24 points.  The Lady Saints are now 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the Jayhawk Conference.

    In a game of runs, it was the 16th-ranked Butler Grizzlies that got the better of the 10th-ranked Seward County Lady Saints 64-54.  Seward moves to 6-2 overall and 0-1 in Jayhawk play, while Butler goes to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in Jayhawk play.
