WACO, Texas – The Seward County Lady Saints tennis team stayed put at 6th place at the NJCAA National, earning three more points to put their total to 24.5 on the week.
Patricia Panta started the day with a tight 7-6 (4), 6-3 win the No. 1 Singles draw over Valentina Gonzalez of Seminole State. With the win, the freshman advances to the final four where she will play Celia Morel of ABAC.
Maria Aveiga lost her first match of the tournament in the quarterfinals against ASA Miami's Kyra Akinnibi 6-3, 6-0. With the loss, she will finish in fifth place in the No. 2 Singles draw.
Alena Macharova also finished her season in the quarterfinals, losing to Tyler's Kalani Soli 6-2, 6-0. Macharova finishes her season with a fifth-place finish in the No. 3 Singles draw.
Steffany Bermudez was the third Lady Saint to fall in the quarterfinals, losing to ASA Miami's Sarah Wardenburg 6-2, 6-1 to finish in fifth-place at the National Tournament in the No. 4 Singles draw.
After losing her opening match, Martina Borges moved to the consolation bracket. She won her first match over Mississippi Gulf Coast's Jenna Lyons 8-2 to advance to the final four of the consolation bracket. She took down Alicia Yeager of Harford without a fight 8-0 to advance to the championship match in the consolation bracket.
Yusra Hegy fell in the No. 6 Singles quarterfinals to become the fourth Lady Saint to finish in fifth place at the National Tournament. Hillsborough's Lolita Kozina defeated Hegy 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play, Bermudez and Panta's season ended in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Ceire Mullins and Shaylee Syme of Hillsborough in the No. 1 Doubles draw.
The No. 2 Doubles team of Aveiga and Macharova advanced to the final four of the consolation bracket by defeating Kennedy Rodriguez and Rachel Sollie of Meridian 8-2.
The No. 3 doubles team of Borges and Hegy was the final team to play Tuesday, falling to Mathilde Lirzin and Cyrielle Peyroche of ABAC. After winning their first set 6-4, Lirzin and Peyroche fought back to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-2.
After three days Hillsborough and Tyler are tied for first with 36 points. Seward currently sits with 24.5 point with two days to go.
