Saints Fall to Barton on the Road to Open Conference Play

GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Seward County men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Barton on Thursday at the Shannon Schartz Tennis Courts.

The Saints were unable to secure the doubles point, falling in two of the three matches to open the afternoon. The duo of Meryl Genevrier and Eytan Miessen picked up Seward County's lone doubles win with a strong 8-3 victory at the No. 2 spot, but Barton claimed wins at No. 1 (8-5) and No. 3 (9-7) to take the early 1-0 lead.

In singles play, Seward County battled back with a pair of wins in the middle of the lineup. Meryl Genevrier rallied after dropping the first set to earn a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3, while Eytan Miessen delivered a dominant third set in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 win at No. 4.

Despite the effort, Barton secured the team victory with wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to reach six total points on the day.

Seward County also picked up an exhibition victory, with Aidyn Thurn earning a win.

The Saints will look to bounce back on Wednesday, April 8th, when they host Cowley College at Blue Bonnet Park in their sophomore day match as well as their lone home match of the season.
