Lady Saints Fall to No. 9 Barton Despite Strong Start in Doubles
GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Seward County women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Barton on Thursday at the Shannon Schartz Tennis Courts at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Lady Saints opened the dual by claiming two of three doubles courts, highlighted by a strong 8-2 win at No. 1 from the pairing of Mishel Lobotenko and Rosaline Akombo-Lum over Barton's Vitoria Campigotto and Danira Ndengoue. Seward County also picked up a default victory at No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles play.
In singles action, Seward County secured wins at No. 1 and No. 5, but Barton controlled the middle courts to swing the match. Lobotenko earned a straight-sets victory at the top spot, defeating No. 16 Campigotto 6-3, 7-5, while Salalee Seejong added a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5.
Barton responded with four straight-set victories at Nos. 2 through 4 to clinch the dual. Danira Ndengoue (No. 18), Grace Tchamoussa, and Jamie Petrova each recorded wins for the Cougars in convincing fashion.
Seward County also earned a default win at No. 6 singles.
The Saints host Cowley at Blue Bonnet Park on Wednesday, April 8th, at 2 p.m. for their sophomore day match as well as their lone home match of the season.
