Saints Esports Weekly Recap (9/22-9/28)

The Saints Esports team started their regular season on Sept. 22nd, marking the third year of the esports program. Below are the results

Monday:

Marvel Rivals – The Rivals team (Amos Gonzalez, Josef Peppa, Benjamin Washburn, Nicolas Benson, Asher Waite and Angel Roberts) squared off against Iowa Western Community College for their first match.  The Saints couldn't find a rhythm and eventually fell on the night 0 – 3.  Their record is 0 – 1.

Tuesday:

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Green team (Johnathan Dominguez) was up against Northwest Florida State College.  It was a tough battle, but Dominguez would fall to the NWFSC player 1 – 3.  His record is 0 – 1.

SSBU Black Team (Emir Darza) had a similarly tough time against another opponent from NWFSC.  The game was a bit closer, but Darza lost the night 2 – 3. His record is 0 – 1.

SSBU White Team (Tien Nguyen) did much better against Marshalltown, shutting out his foe 3 – 0. His record starts at 1 – 0.

SSBU Silver Team (Ian Cruz) couldn't land enough punches on the Lorain County Community College player and lost 0 – 3. His record starts at 0 – 1.

Fortnite White Team (Jess Johnson and Alexis Armendariz) had a stressful game against Alvin Community College. The pair won the first set handily. In the second set, both players took an early fall but still managed to score enough points to come out on top. They won the set 2 – 0. Their record is 1 – 0

Fortnite Black Team (Henry Perez and Osiel Ventura), the returning Spring Champions showed why they won nationals last spring with a hardy beating of Forsyth Technical Community College. They won the set 2 - 0.  Their record starts at 1 – 0.

Wednesday:

Madden Green Team (Akele Powdrill) won two straight against St Clair Community College in fairly easy games for the Saints player. His record improves to 1 - 0.

Mario Kart 4v4 (Joshua Vasquez, Juan Acevedo, Emir Darza, and Edward Rios) received an unscheduled bye week the first week of competition. 

Thursday:

Street Fighter 6 Green Team (Johnathan Dominguez) squared off in the virtual ring against Finger Lakes Community College in a best of 5 set.  Dominguez lost the first two, won the third, and lost the 4th. He fell 1 – 3 on the set. His record drops to 0 – 1.

The Call of Duty Gunfight team (Nicolas Benson and Angel Alba) cruised to victory against Lorain County Community College on Thursday night.  They dropped a few points but were in no danger of letting the LCCC players on top. They won the set 3 – 0. Their record moves to 1 – 0

The Saints Rocket League Duo (Asher Waite and Brian Amador) came out hitting the Hudson Valley Community College crew hard and often. The Saints accumulated 22 points over three rounds, compared to HVCC's 11 points. The Saints won 3 – 0. Their begging record is 1 – 0.

Mario Kart White Team (Jess Johnson) had a white knuckle set against Highland Community College but didn't let the pressure get to him.  Johnson won 4 – 2.  His record is 1 – 0

Mario Kart Emerald (Juan Acevedo) go the benefit of a forfeit from his opponent at Clovis Community College. Under NJCAAE rules, the match still counts as a win for Acevedo. His record is 1 – 0

Mario Kart Onyx (Bret Lyon) couldn't find the gas to beat her opponent from State Fair Community College. She dropped 0 – 4.  Her record is 0 – 1.

Mario Kart Black (Edward Rios) was able to take once match off the player from Ellsworth Community College, but that was all he was able to take. The rest of the match was all ECC. Rios lost 1 – 4. His record is 0 – 1.

Mario Kart Green (Amos Gonzalez) faced off against an old SCCC nemesis in Rose State College. Gonzalez put the green on top with a 4 – 1 victory over RSC.  His record is 1 – 0
