Saints Swept at Butler

EL DORADO, Kan. – Seward County volleyball fell in straight sets to the Butler Grizzlies, 25-17, 25-14, 25-18, on Saturday afternoon inside the Power Plant.

Mariana Silva led the Saints' (6-13, 3-5 KJCCC) offense with 10 kills while setter Jhulya Carlotti tallied 21 assists and five digs. Maria Eduarda Parise added an efficient performance at the net with three kills on a .600 hitting percentage and one block.

The Saints struggled to find rhythm offensively, hitting just .022 as a team with 23 total kills. Defensively, Seward collected 28 digs, led by Julissa Garcia and Ana Nikolic with five apiece.

Bella Holcomb totaled 31 assists for Butler, Miami Kirksay and Rylin Sommer totaled eight kills each and Sophia Neihouse had 10 blocks. Butler hit .359 as a team.

Butler has now won seven out of their last eight matches while the Saints have lost three straight.

The Saints and Grizzlies split the year's meetings as Seward won 3-2 in The Greenhouse in the conference opener on Sept. 3rd.

Seward County continues its conference schedule on Wednesday as they travel to Great Bend for a match at the 12th ranked Barton Cougars. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
