McKinnie's Layup With 3 Seconds Left Seals the Deal for Saints at Pratt
PRATT, Kan. – Freshman guard RJ McKinnie dribbled around the perimeter eventually finding some open space and put in an open layup with three seconds remaining to put the Seward Saints ahead for good on Wednesday evening at the Beaver Dome.
McKinnie's layup gave Seward an 81-79 win as Pratt was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer. The win moved Seward to 8-3, 3-2 in league play. It was their second consecutive win after defeating Hutchinson on Saturday.
McKinnie finished with 12 points and four steals. Lucas N'Gombo led Seward's scoring efforts with 16 points to go with five rebounds. Korbin Dowdell netted 15 points off the bench. Awit Mamer had 12 points and Bailey Milligan turned in 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Saints trailed 39-33 after the first half but outscored Pratt 48-40 in the second half. Seward trailed by as much as 15 early.
Seydina Faye led all scorers with 21 for Pratt.
Seward shot 53.1% (26-49) including 5-18 from three (27.8%) and 24-37 (64.9%) from the free throw line. Pratt outrebounded Seward 28-22 but Seward forced 19 turnovers compared to 14 of their own.
