Saints rally from 21 down to stun Broncbusters, 92-90

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Seward County Community College men's basketball team rallied to a 92-90 win at Garden City Community College Wednesday, erasing a 21-point second-half deficit en route to its fourth straight win.

The Saints improved to 5-2 in the Jayhawk Conference and 10-3 overall. Seward concludes the first part of its season by hosting Butler Community College on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Greenhouse.

The Saints trailed by 17 points at halftime before seeing the margin swell to 21 at 54-33 with 18:56 left in the second half. Seward then came to life on offense and defense, going on a 28-9 run over the next eight minutes, cutting the deficit to 63-61 at the 10:20 mark. Antonio Williams Jr scored eight points and Lucas N'Gombo added seven points to power the Seward run.

The Broncbusters answered with a layup to open a four-point lead, 65-61, but the Saints were not done. Williams Jr hit a three-point play and an Awit Mamer layup helped Seward grab the advantage at 66-65 with 8:59 remaining. The Saints never trailed the rest of the way and led by as many as nine with two minutes remaining.

Garden City closed the gap to within one in the waning seconds, but RJ McKinnie knocked down one of two free throws for the final margin and a Seward two-point win. A desperation three by the Broncbusters at the buzzer was no good.

Williams Jr led all scorers with 33 points off the bench, including a perfect 13-13 from the free-throw line and N'Gombo chipped in with 25 points and eight rebounds.

Jordon Nevill had 19 points and Dasean Lewis added 13 points for Garden City, which fell to 5-2 in the conference play and 10-3 overall.
