Saints Win Big Over Colby at Home

LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward men's basketball earned its first conference win of the season taking down the Colby Trojans 73-56 at The Greenhouse on Saturday afternoon.

Seward (6-1, 1-1 KJCCC) held Colby (2-6, 0-2) to just 33% shooting in the game which is the lowest a Seward opponent has shot this season.

Antonio Williams Jr. led Seward in scoring for a third straight game finishing with 18 points off the bench. RJ McKinnie totaled 14 points and a game-high six assists while Lucas N'Gombo had 13 points and eight rebounds. Lyna Brooks Jr. had eight points and seven rebounds.

Both teams turned the ball over 20-plus times with Seward having 23 and Colby 24 turnovers. Colby was 10-26 from three and Seward shot 5-19 from distance. The Saints knocked in 28-35 (80%) of their free throws and Colby was 16-22 (72.7%).

Colby was led by Braedyn Gillespie's 13 points, Kellan Simoneau chipped in 12.

The Trojans jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the 15:54 mark, their largest lead of the game, and Seward did not score until five minutes in when N'Gombo made a free throw to make it 8-1. The Saints fought back to tie the game 8-8 following a pair of Brooks Jr. free throws with 11:32 to play and took their first lead off two McKinnie free throws to make it 10-8 two minutes later. The teams traded leads down the stretch of the half but an 8-0 Saint run that saw back-to-back N'Gombo layups and a Williams Jr. three put Seward ahead 22-16 with 1:19 remaining. The Saints led 24-19 heading to halftime.

Seward outscored Colby 49-37 in the second half. McKinnie totaled 12 points and five assists playing 16 of his 26 minutes in the second half.

Colby never led in the second half. A 12-0 run that began at the 14:09 mark gave Seward a 42-26 lead. They snagged their largest lead of the game at the 8:49 mark going ahead by 19 when Williams Jr. connected on a three to make it 47-28. The Saints led by double digits for the final 11:33 of the game.

The 28 made free throws were a season-high for Seward.
