LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County women's soccer team lost its first game of the season, falling 3-0 to No. 11 ranked Cowley on Sunday afternoon at Redskin Field.
Ater the two teams sat through rain and lightning for two hours on Saturday evening, the game was ultimately pushed to Sunday.
Seward (2-1-0, 1-1-0 KJCCC) played tough defense for the first half as the game went to halftime scoreless.
Cowley (2-0-1, 2-0-0) broke through three minutes into the second half to make it 1-0. The Tigers struck twice more in the 63rd minute and the 86th minute with three different Tigers scoring.
The Saints were outshot 20-6 in the game. Seward goalkeeper Caroline Benck finished with an impressive 10 saves on 13 shots on goal.
Eduarda Martins led Seward with three shots and Juliana Salazar added two shots as they provided the offensive pressure for Seward.
Seward looks to get back in the win column on Wednesday as they host Coffeyville at Redskin Field, game time slated for 6 p.m.
