Lady Saints Blank Dodge City on the Road
DODGE CITY, Kan. – Seward women's soccer defeated the Dodge City Conquistadors 3-0 at Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints (5-7-1, 4-7-1) earned revenge after the Conquistadors (6-8-0, 4-8-0) previously took down the Saints 1-0 at Redskin Field on Sept. 24th. The win marked Seward's first in five games with the last win coming at Butler on Sept. 27th.
Seward's defense was strong on Sunday as the Conquistadors got just three shots on goal off, all of which goalkeeper Caroline Benck turned away.
Melanni Matango netted the first goal of the game 35 minutes in off an assist from Juliana Salazar. The Saints took that 1-0 lead to half.
Julia Astrath netted both second half goals for Seward to give them the 3-0 win. Her first goal came in the 56th minute as Juliana Salazar sent a crosser over that Astrath headed in. Astrath's second goal and the Saints third goal was unassisted as she placed a shot over the goalie in the left corner.
Meredith Rosas and Juliana Salazar finished with four shots each while Astrath paced the Saints with five shots.
Seward finished with 23 shots to Dodge City's 11 and had five corner kicks to the Conquistadors two.
The Saints final home game is up next as they host Butler on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Sophomore Day recognitions will take place at 5:45 p.m. before the match.
