LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Lady Saints soccer team put together a strong defensive effort at Redskin Field on Wednesday night, but ultimately succumbed to the 18th ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons, 1-0.
In the Saints (4-7-1, 3-7-1 KJCCC) fourth matchup with a ranked opponent this season, they held Hutchinson (10-2-2, 7-2-2) to just three second half shots. The Blue Dragons game winning goal came in the 70th minute as Bessie Simpson put in the goal to give them a 1-0 lead.
Seward goalkeeper Caroline Benck finished with five saves in the loss and the Saints backline played strong all evening keeping the Blue Dragons off the attack.
Giuliana Granada finished with two shots for Seward while Gabriela Silva and Eduarda Martins each had a shot on goal for the Saints who had six shots to Hutchinson's 10. The Blue Dragons finished with six shots on goal.
Seward travels to Dodge City on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match with the Conquistadors at Memorial Stadium.
