Saints Fall in Straight Sets to Dodge City at The Greenhouse
LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward volleyball was unable to find its rhythm Wednesday night, falling in straight sets to the Dodge City Conquistadors (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) inside The Greenhouse.
The Saints (6-12, 3-4 KJCCC) hit just .043 as a team, totaling 25 kills against 21 errors in the match. Dodge City (10-10, 4-4) hit .256 while piling up 34 kills and 8.5 team blocks to earn the road sweep.
The loss was the first for Seward at home this season as they are now 2-1 at home. It was also the first time the Saints have been swept in conference play.
Sophomore Mariana Silva paced Seward offensively with a team-high eight kills while adding five digs and a service ace. Ana Nikolic chipped in six kills, and Nicolly Chaves tallied five kills with two blocks. Setter Maja Kobielska directed the attack with 16 assists, while libero Mireya Kawaguchi anchored the back row with 10 digs.
Despite the loss, the Saints showed fight in each frame, pushing Dodge City with late rallies in the first and third sets before the Conquistadors closed the door.
Seward begins its second run through KJCCC play on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they travel to face Butler. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in the Power Plant.
