Lady Saints Come Up Short at Home to Garden City

LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward County Volleyball dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25) decision at The Greenhouse to the Garden City Broncbusters on Saturday afternoon.

Just three days after handing the ninth ranked Colby Trojans their first conference loss of the season, Seward (8-15, 5-7 KJCCC) dropped a match to the Broncbusters (11-10, 8-4) who swept the Saints this season as Seward also fell 3-1 at Conestoga Arena on Sept. 17th.

Both teams hit similarly with Garden City (.182) edging the Saints (.177). Garden City finished with 14 blocks to Seward's eight and totaled 11 aces to Seward's seven.

Seward dropped set one 25-20 but responded to tie the match with a 25-19 set two win. Garden City edged out both set three and four in tightly contested affairs as the Saints dropped both 25-22.

Mariana Silva led Seward with 16 kills on 48 attacks. She also dug up a team-high 15 Broncbuster attacks finishing with a double-double.

Ana Nikolic added 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double of her own. Maja Kobielska dished out 34 assists and had 12 digs while Annalisa Volpatti finished with six kills and three blocks.

Garden City was led by Jana Gita KoVacevic's 12 kills while Daniella Nogueira had 24 digs and Katariina Miscevic finished with six blocks.

Seward hits the road on Wednesday traveling to Concordia for a 6:30 p.m. match at the Cloud County Thunderbirds. The Saints are currently tied for fifth out of nine teams in the KJCCC with Dodge City, who holds the tiebreaker over the Saints as they won 3-0 at The Greenhouse on Oct. 1st. The two teams close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1st in Dodge City.
