Volleyball Goes 2-1 at North Platte Tournament to Open 2025 Season

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Seward County volleyball traveled to North Platte, Nebraska, to open its 2025 season as part of the North Platte Community College Tournament held at McDonald-Belton Gym on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints came away from the tournament with a 2-1 record. Seward opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Gillette College on Friday but bounced back with two wins on Saturday, taking down McCook 3-2 and then closing things out with a five-set victory over host North Platte.

Seward travels to McCook, Nebraska, on Friday to kick off a four-game slate at the McCook Invitational. The Saints will take on North Platte and Iowa Western on Friday and North Central Texas and Indian Hills on Saturday.

Gillette College 3, Seward 0

The Saints opened their season with a 3-0 loss to Gillette. The Sains hit just .108 in the match with the Pronghorns hitting .218 and totaling just two receiving errors.

Set one was back-and-forth with Gillette squeaking out a 25-22 win but the Saints fell handily in sets two and three, 25-16 and 25-18.

Mariana Silva slammed home 15 kills to lead the Saints, also adding five digs. Mireya Kawaguchi totaled 10 digs while Maja Kobielska had seven digs and nine assists.

Seward 3, McCook 1

The Saints bounced back on Saturday for their first victory of the 2025 season, defeating McCook 3-1.

Seward's defense was on full display holding the Indians to .038 hitting forcing 28 attack errors.

Mina Milivojevic led Seward's offensive attack with 19 kills on .297 hitting, just missing out on a double-double tallying nine digs as well. Ana Nikolic added eight kills and seven digs and Jhulya Carlotti recorded 33 assists and five digs.

Seward 3, North Platte 2

Seward closed out its stay at the tournament with a thriller, taking down the host Knights in five sets.

The Saints stormed back from down 10-4 in the fifth set to claim the set 16-14 and the match 3-2. The first set went to extra points with Seward taking it 28-26 before they jumped out to a 2-0 lead winning set two 25-23. NPCC won the next two sets before taking a sizeable lead in the fifth that the Saints eventually erased.

Seward was outhit .211 to .187 in the match but came away with the win. Silva led Seward for a second time in the tournament with 24 kills on .319 hitting, also digging up nine Knight attacks. Milivojevic had 16 kills while Jhulya Carlotti had 44 assists.
