  • Three Seward Teams Earn Top KJCCC GPA

    The academic recognition continues for Seward County athletic teams, as the 2016-17 KJCCC academic report was released Monday (Aug. 7) with three SCCC teams earning the top cumulative GPA in their respective sports. Men and women’s tennis, along with women’s basketball, all earned the highest GPA in their sports.

    The Seward County Saints thoughts of an upset win over the Jayhawk East Champion Cowley Tigers was squelched early on Friday in the first game of a Region VI Tournament three game series, as the Tigers put up crooked numbers in four of their first five offensive innings to roll to a 15-1 win over the Saints, putting Seward in a must win situation with the season on the line in game two Saturday.

    Seward County Athletics will move ahead under the leadership of a new Interim Director of Athletics — one with a familiar face. Trustees appointed Roy Allen to the position, after discussion in executive session, at the regular May meeting Monday night.

    The Seward County Saints will sneak into the Region VI Tournament as the #16 seed in the 16 team tournament next weekend despite suffering their third sweep of the 2017 season on Friday at Williams Stadium in Garden City, falling 2-0 and 10-7 to the rival Garden City Broncbusters to finish the regular season 17-36 overall and 10-22 in Jayhawk West Conference play.

    Three familiar and deserving faces were inducted into the Saints Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet in the Greenhouse as Softball great Courtney Auger as well as longtime supporters Bill & Virginia Colvin took their place as the class of 2017 in front of a crowd of 300.

    If the Seward County Saints could summon Will Smith and his Neuralyzer from Men in Black after Thursday’s games at Garden City, they certainly would have, as Seward suffered a 4-2 walk off loss in game one of the doubleheader and were then handed their worst loss in program history in game two in a 25-2 thumping to drop all the way back to 10-20 in Jayhawk West Conference play this season.

    Seward County pitching only allowed runs in 4 of 16 pitched on Saturday, but two of those four were five spots, and another a seven run frame for the visiting Dodge City Conquistadors as the Conqs took the series opener 12-7 and game two 7-3 to send the Saints to their seventh and eighth straight losses.
  • Weather Messes With Seward's Weekend Schedule Again

    A continuing wet April has forced more schedule changes for Seward’s Spring sports this weekend. Saints Baseball has pushed their start time back to 3:30 on Saturday against Dodge City with the school’s annual Helicopter Ball Drop still planned for a 3:00 drop. Lady Saints Softball will resume their unfinished game with Barton at 4:00 at Lady Saints Field in Liberal while their postponed doubleheader Friday against Butler has been moved for the fourth time to Monday at 2:00.

    A frustrating season for the Seward County Saints continued Saturday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend as Seward managed just two runs in a doubleheader against the Barton Cougars as Barton wrapped up its first ever sweep of the Saints with 7-1 and 11-1 wins to send the Saints spiraling to 9-15 in Jayhawk West Conference play with two weekends to go.

    Just one week after walking off Butler twice in one day, the Seward County Saints got the tables turned on them Friday afternoon in Great Bend as the Barton Cougars used a solo home run to beat Seward 4-3 in walk off fashion in game one of their Jayhawk West Conference doubleheader and a three run job in game two to kick in the run rule in a 17-7 Cougar win to sweep the twinbill.

    With the wind blowing out and a worn down pitching staff after a long weekend series, the Seward County Saints struggled to hold down the visiting Clarendon Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon at Brent Gould Field, falling 21-10 in a contest in which Clarendon scored in seven of nine innings of action.

    At the end of their four game weekend series with the Butler Grizzlies, the Seward County Saints had been outscored by eight runs, but that didn’t matter as after a pair of one run wins Saturday, Seward held on for a 15-14 win in the series finale after dropping game three 12-1 to take the four game set 3-1 for their second straight Jayhawk West series win.

    The Seward County Saints grinded out a pair of 7-6 wins Saturday afternoon at Brent Gould Field, getting a walk off sacrifice fly from Jacob Nielsen in the opener and a walk off double from Cody Coontz in game two to begin their Jayhawk West series against the Butler Grizzlies with a bang.
  • Saints Clinch First Jayhawk Series Win

    The Seward County Saints finished up their best weekend of the season to date on Sunday in Hays, Kansas, splitting with Cloud County to secure their first Jayhawk West Conference series win of the year. Cloud jumped on Seward early in the first game of the twinbill, leading the T-Birds to a 7-1 win, but the Saints rebounded for a 13-4 win in the series finale to take the series 3-1.

    The Seward County Saints used three home runs and solid pitching to claim a pair of Jayhawk West Conference wins over Cloud County on Friday, knocking off the T-Birds 3-2 in extra innings in game one before hanging on for a 4-3 win in game two to sweep the first two games of their four game set in Hays.

    The Seward County Saints spent their bye weekend in Jayhawk Conference action on the road at Rose State as Saints Head Coach Galen McSpadden took on his former righthander Coty Cooper who is the Head Coach for the Raiders. Rose scored a pair of late runs in game one for an 8-6 win before Seward struck early and held on for a 6-2 win in game two to split the twinbill.
  • Beavers Cut Down Saints to Wrap Series

    After sweeping Pratt in a pair of close contests on Sunday at Stanion Field in Pratt, the Seward County Saints dropped a pair of close contests to the Beavers Wednesday to wrap up the series, marking the first time in program history that Seward was swept in a doubleheader by their foes from the East.
