MCCOOK, Neb. – Seward softball dropped both games of a doubleheader at McCook Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Saints (6-10) have lost six straight after the 10-2 and 9-3 losses at McCook (8-2), who is receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division 1 poll.
Seward returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to take on Trinidad State College for a doubleheader that gets started at 3 p.m. CST.
Game 1: McCook 10, Seward 2 (5 Inn.)
Seward fell 10-2 in game one of the afternoon.
McCook jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in both the first and second innings. The lead pushed to 10-0 in the bottom of the fourth before Seward plated two runs in the fifth to get on the board.
Taylor Harding led the Saints with two hits and an RBI while Alyssa Sharrock added an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
Grace Horne (L, 2-4) got the start and was tagged with the loss throwing 3.1 innings allowing five earned runs. She struck out one and walked four. Aaliyah Arredondo threw two-thirds of the fourth, allowing two unearned runs on two hits. Seward committed three errors.
Game 2: McCook 9, Seward 3
Game two saw the Saints jumping out and holding a lead for the first four innings before the McCook offense got rolling as Seward fell 9-3.
Seward plated a run in the second to take a 1-0 lead and added two more in the top of the fifth to go ahead 3-0.
Emily Lane finished 2-4 with an RBI, Sharrock finished 2-4 while Harding and Jahlisa Klear each drove in a run.
Liberty Sharman (L, 1-5) had a solid effort in the circle throwing all 6.0 innings. Only three of the Indians nine runs were earned as a slew of Saints errors kept the fifth inning going. Sharman struck out five and walked four.
