Seward Softball Gets 1st Win Over Butler Since 2017

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Seward County softball team earned its first victory over Butler since 2017 on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader at East Park.

The Saints (14-26, 6-19 KJCCC) fell 9-1 in the opener but bounced back to upset the Grizzlies (18-14, 12-6) 7-5 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Butler 9, Seward 1 (5 Inn.)

Seward was limited to one hit and one run in a run-rule loss to open the afternoon. Butler's Addison Chapman earned the win, recording 10 strikeouts and holding the Saints' offense in check.

Freshman Aaliyah Arredondo surrendered eight earned runs on 10 hits and six walks for Seward.

Game 2: Seward 7, Butler 5

The Saints led from start to finish to secure the Game two victory. Amithys Perez put Seward on the board early with an RBI single in the first inning. The lead grew to 5-0 in the second, punctuated by a two-run single from Kate Perez.

Butler cut the lead to 5-4 following two-run home runs in the second and fourth innings from Emillee Stofferahn, but Taryn Golden provided the response. Golden's two-run single in the fifth pushed the advantage back to 7-4. Despite a late solo home run by the Grizzlies, the Saints held on to clinch the two-run win.

Grace Horne (6-12) earned the complete-game victory, allowing five runs on six hits while navigating six walks. Kate Perez paced the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Golden also finished with two RBIs.
