Saints Sweep Colby at Home Behind Arredondo’s No Hitter

LIBERAL, Kan. – Fresh off a win over Barton on the road, Seward softball returned home on Wednesday and swept the Colby Trojans at French Family Field.

The Saints (17-27, 9-17) won 8-0 in game one as Arredondo threw her first collegiate no-hitter as well as the first for the Saints this season. Seward used its offense and a strong effort from Grace Horne in the circle in game two to win 11-5.

The sweep for the Saints makes it a season split for the two teams after Colby won both at Colby on March 21st.

Game 1: Seward 8, Colby 0 (5 Inn.)

Arredondo (W, 5-7) retired all but one Colby batter in the game (15 of 16) as she threw all 5.0 innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

Amithys Perez drove in a career-high six runs, finishing 3-3 as she had a two-run single, double, and home run to pace the Saints. Taryn Golden and Mya Van Der Mey also added RBIs.

Seward plated two in the first, two in the third and four in the fifth to end the game early.

Game 2: Seward 11, Colby 5 (7 Inn.)

The Saints struck first and never trailed in game two as three different Saints tallied multiple hits, forcing the Trojans to use three different pitchers.

Perez started the scoring in game two with an RBI infield single. The bottom of the second saw Jahlisa Klear rip a two-out, bases-clearing double down the right field line to make it 4-0.

Colby plated two in the third, but the Saints responded in the bottom half with four runs on no hits as the Trojans walked five batters and three Saints scored on wild pitches. Seward led 8-2 after three.

Taylor Harding was 2-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Alyssa Sharrock also drove in two runs.
