Saints Swept by Hutch

LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward County Community College softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Hutchinson at French Family Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Seward falls to 13-25 overall and 5-15 in conference play. They travel to El Dorado on Saturday for a doubleheader at Butler Community College.

Game 1:Hutchinson 5, Seward 1

The Saints played the Blue Dragons tough in game one, falling 5-1.

Hutch used a two-run first inning and a run in the second to claim an early 3-0 advantage. They later led 5-0 before the Saints got on the board off a Hutch error in the sixth to make it 5-1.

Freshman pitcher Aaliyah Arredondo (L, 4-5) suffered the loss throwing all seven innings allowing five runs on 11 hits, walking three and striking out two.

Kate Perez, Amithys Perez, Ella Doxey Mya Van Der Mey and Taryn Golden each recorded hits for Seward as they were outhit 11-5 by Hutch who was paced by Gabby Stauffer and Emery Benson-Hladik's 3-4 outings. Aubree Thomas (W, 11-1) threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs while striking out six and walking one.

Game 2: Hutchinson 12, Seward 0 (5 Inn.)

Seward fell 12-0 in a run-rule game two. The Saints were outhit 14-3 as Hutchinson used two home runs and two triples to keep the offensive pressure on.

The Saints trailed just 3-0 after two innings but Hutch used five runs in the third and four in the fifth to get the win.

Taylor Harding, Kate Perez and Ella Doxey each had hits for Seward.

Grace Horne (L, 5-11) got the start and threw 2.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs, no walks, and no strikeouts. Kaitlyn Gonzalez threw the final 2.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits with four walks and no strikeouts.

Alyss Rogers (W, 5-3) threw all five innings for the Blue Dragons, striking out six and walking four. Riley Dreher was 3-3 with five RBI
