PRATT, Kan. – The Seward and Pratt softball teams opened the second round of conference play on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader split.
Each team won in a run rule as the Saints (13-23, 5-13) took game one 9-0 in five before falling to the Beavers (6-26, 3-13) 10-2 in six innings in game two.
Seward finished the regular season with a 3-1 record vs. Pratt after a sweep at home earlier in the season.
The Saints host Hutchinson at home on Wednesday, April 8th, with first pitch at 1 p.m.
Game 1: Seward 9, Pratt 0 (5 Inn.)
Freshman pitcher Aaliyah Arredondo (W, 4-4) tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in her start for her second scoreless outing of the week in the Saints win. She allowed just two hits while striking out three and walking two.
Three first-inning runs off two hits and a Pratt error helped set the tone for Seward in the game. A four-run fourth highlighted by a two-run home run from Jewell Carleton put a bow on it.
Seward outhit Pratt 13-4 and had a clean sheet defensively.
Game 2: Pratt 10, Seward 2 (6 Inn.)
Seward dropped game two 10-2 despite outhitting Pratt 9-8. Four Saint errors and seven runners stranded in the game were the deciding factors.
Ella Doxey and Taryn Golden had multi-hit games for Seward. Doxey and Carleton drove in runs.
Grace Horne (L, 5-10) was tagged with the loss throwing the first 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits. Kaitlyn Gonzales threw the final 2.2 innings, allowing five earned runs.
The Saints trailed 5-0 heading into the fifth inning. Carleton and Doxey had RBI base hits in the fifth and six respectively to put Seward on the board but Pratt used five runs in the sixth to earn the win.
