Seward Softball Sweeps Fort Hays Tech Northwest

LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward softball snapped a 12-game losing streak in conference play on Wednesday afternoon as they swept the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers at French Family Field.

Seward (12-22, 4-12 KJCCC) won both games in five-inning run rules, taking down the Tigers 11-1 in game one and 14-3 in game two.

The Saints travel to Pratt on Friday for a doubleheader that kicks off round two of conference play.

Game 1: Seward 11, FHTNW 1 (5 Inn.)

Freshman pitcher Aaliyah Arredondo (W, 3-4) tossed a 5.0 inning complete game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out five and walking none in the Saints' win.

Seward outhit FHTNW 15-1 in the game, highlighted by a five-run third inning. Freshman Taylor Harding paved the way, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Freshmen Kate Perez, Jewell Carleton, Malaya Garcia, and Amithys Perez all finished with two hits. The Sains benefited from three Tiger errors.

FHTNW tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second off a Saint error but Seward used RBIs from Amithys Perez, Kate Perez and Jahlisa Klear in the second to go ahead 4-1 and never looked back.

Game 2: Seward 14, FHTNW 3 (5 Inn.)

The Saints jumped out to a quick lead and never lost control in the game two win.

Seward used four runs in the first and five in the second to build a 9-0 lead. The Tigers cut into the lead in the top of the fourth, plating three runs on four hits. Seward added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Harding once again turned in a three-hit performance as she was 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Carleton finished 2-3 with two runs and two RBI while Kate Perez, Amithys Perez and Alyssa Sharrock each drove in two runs.

Grace Horne (W, 5-9) earned the win in the circle throwing 3.0 innings allowing no runs on one hit with three punchouts and no walks.
