GREAT BEND, Kan. – The Seward softball team split a road doubleheader at Barton Community College on Saturday afternoon, falling 17-0 in game one and winning game two 7-6.
The Saints bounced back with a game-two win to split the doubleheader on the road.
They return to French Family Field on Wednesday to host Colby.
Game 1: Barton 17, Seward 0 (5 Inn.)
Barton plated six runs in the first and continued to pour it on to win game one 17-0.
The Saints mustered just one hit as Taylor Harding singled in the first at bat of the game.
Peyton McCormick threw all 5.0 innings for the Cougars striking out three. Barton outhit Seward 11-1.
Game 2: Seward 7, Barton 6 (7 Inn.)
Seward came back and earned the game two win to split the series as they outhit the Cougars 12-9 in the 7-6 win. The Saints never trailed in the game.
Jahlisa Klear finished 3-3, Ami Perez drove in three runs and Taylor Harding and Kate Perez each added two hits.
Grace Horne (W, 7-11) threw a complete game, allowing four earned runs while striking out three.
Perez hit a three-run home run in the top of the third inning to put Seward ahead 4-0. The Cougars used two runs in the fourth to get on the board, but Seward answered with two runs in the sixth and another on an RBI single from Ella Doxey in the seventh to lead 7-2.
Barton plated four runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the seventh. They got the winning run to the plate three times but the Saints held on for the victory.
