GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Seward softball had a tough day on the road as they dropped two games at Garden City on Wednesday afternoon.
Seward (17-31, 9-21 KJCCC) fell 18-4 in game one and 10-2 in game two, both run-rule losses in five innings. Garden City moves to 28-24 overall and 15-15 in league play.
The Saints close out regular season play on Saturday as they travel to Goodland to take on Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
Game 1: Garden City 18, Seward 4 (5 Inn.)
Seward was outhit 17-3 in an 18-4 loss in game one.
The Saints scored two runs in the first inning to get out to a 2-0 lead as they sent seven batters to the plate. Emily Lane worked a bases loaded walk and Kate Perez scored on a failed pickoff.
Garden City used a two-run home run in the bottom of the first and two more runs in the second to go ahead 4-2. The dam was broken in the third as the Broncbusters plated 14 runs on 12 hits and an error.
Lane drove in two runs for Seward. Aaliyah Arredondo (L, 5-9) took the loss in the circle, getting the start and allowing eight runs in 2.0 innings.
The Broncbusters hit four home runs in the game.
Game 2: Garden City 10, Seward 2 (5 Inn.)
Seward fell 10-2 in game two. They were only outhit 8-7 but stranded eight baserunners in the loss.
Grace Horne (L, 8-13) took the loss, allowing all 10 runs in 4.2 innings. She struck out four and walked four.
Seward plated its first run in the fourth on a solo home run from Mya Van Der Mey that made it 3-1. It marked Van Der Mey's first collegiate home run.
Garden City added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. Amithys Perez hit a solo home run for the Saints in the fifth to make it 5-2 but it was the last Saint run. Garden City plated the final five runs to end the game early.
