TISHOMINGO, Okla. – Seward softball travelled to take on the No. 1-ranked Division 2 Murray State Aggies on Saturday afternoon, falling in both ends of the doubleheader.
Seward (4-4) fell 16-3 in game one and 12-0 in game two, both five-inning run rules, as Murray State moved to 10-0 on the season. The three runs scored by Seward in game one are the most a team has scored against MSC this season.
Seward returns to action Wednesday as they travel to Otero for a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. CST.
Game 1: Murray State 16, Seward 3 (5 inn.)
Walks and errors hampered Seward in the game one loss as only seven of MSC's 16 runs were earned.
MSC plated eight runs in the second and eight more in the third to seize control. The Lady Saints saw two runs come home in the top of the third and a run in the fourth, but it was too little too late. Amithys Perez, Alyssa Sharrock and Jewell Carleton drove in runs for Seward.
Murray outhit Seward 14-3. Liberty Sharman (L, 2-2) threw the first 2.1 innings walking five with no strikeouts. Grace Horne threw the final 1.2, allowing a lone run on four hits.
Game 2: Murray State 12, Seward 0 (5 inn.)
Seward held tight with the Aggies through two innings in game two but the Aggies busted through with nine third inning runs to go ahead 12-0.
Horne (L, 2-2) got the start in game two holding the Aggies to three runs across the first two innings, but back-to-back long balls to open the bottom of the third chased her. Aaliyah Arredondo and Kaitlyn Gonzales each threw an inning in relief with Gonzales shutting MSC out in the fourth allowing a lone hit.
