Offensive Explosion Sees Seward Reach Century Mark in Win Over Trinidad State
LA JUNTA, Colo. – The Seward County women's basketball team will return to Liberal 2-0 after winning both games at the Otero Classic, including a 102-54 win over Trinidad State College at the McDivitt Center on Saturday afternoon.
The 102 points scored for Seward (2-0) is the most since March 11, 2021, when the Lady Saints poured in 136 in a win over Neosho.
Three Lady Saints scored in double figures led by sophomore Avery Marchino's 25 points and eight rebounds as she shot 7-13 from the floor and 10-12 from the charity stripe. Redshirt freshman Kimora Fagan finished with 17 points and three steals and freshman Kiara Owens added 10 points off the bench.
TSC (0-2) scored the first points of the game but Marchino and Trinitee Holmes put in layups on consecutive possessions to give Seward a 4-2 lead, one they held through the rest of the game.
Holmes finished with four points, six rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Seward's biggest quarter margin of victory was the second when they outscored Trinidad 24-9 to take a 47-21 lead to half.
The Lady Saints return home to host the Seward Classic on Saturday, Nov. 8th, and Sunday, Nov. 9th. The home opener is Saturday at 7 p.m. vs. Otero. Seward will close out the classic on Sunday at 3 p.m. vs Northeastern Junior College. Garden City will be the fourth team taking part in the classic.
