LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Lady Saints smothered the Fort Hays Tech Northwest Tigers, winning 84-52 on Saturday afternoon in The Greenhouse.
Seward (19-12) advances to the Region 6 Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday at four-seed Coffeyville for the second season in a row. Tipoff will be at 5:30 p.m. from Nellis Hall.
The Lady Saints jumped out to a 16-2 lead six minutes into the first quarter and led 26-5 after one, making their statement early. They led 51-19 at halftime.
Seward forced 24 turnovers in the game, coughing it up 12 times of their own. They outscored the Tigers 34-14 in the paint and outrebounded them 43-36. Seward was 18-29 from the free throw line, Tech was 11-14.
Avery Marchino led with 22 points and six rebounds. Kimora Fagan chipped in 19 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. Tyniah Smith had a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Fort Hays Tech outscored Seward 20-15 in the third quarter, trimming Seward's lead to 66-39, but the Lady Saints closed the game out, holding the Tigers to 4-12 (33.3%) shooting in the fourth.
