Marchino Named 3rd Team NJCAA All-American
LIBERAL, Kan. – Seward County women's basketball sophomore guard Avery Marchino was named an NJCAA Third Team All-American, the organization announced Wednesday.
Marchino, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., also earned KJCCC Division I Player of the Year honors following the season.
She was the lone KJCCC Division I women's basketball player to average more than 20 points per game this season, pouring in 20.6 points per contest while shooting 42.4 percent from the field. Marchino ranked third in the conference in 3-point percentage (41.2) and fourth in free-throw percentage (81.6). She also led the league in free-throw attempts (201) and made free throws (164).
In addition to her scoring, Marchino averaged 7.1 rebounds per game (eighth in the KJCCC) and 2.8 assists per contest. She scored a season-high 38 points in a home win over Independence on Feb. 18 and was held to single-digit scoring just four times in 32 games.
Marchino etched her name throughout the Lady Saints record book during her career. She ranks ninth all-time with 986 career points and ninth with a 15.4 points-per-game average. Her 220 made free throws rank eighth all-time, while her 82.1 percent free-throw percentage is fifth-best in program history.
Her single-season marks also place among the program's best. Marchino's 659 points this season rank ninth all-time, while her 164 made free throws are sixth-most in a season. Her 20.6 scoring average ranks seventh, and her 38-point performance against Independence is tied for the fifth-highest single-game total in program history.
Marchino becomes the Lady Saints' 21st NJCAA All-American selection and the 18th different player in program history to earn the honor.
