Marchino named KJCCC Division I Player of the Year; three Saints named All-Conference

Seward County Community College sophomore Avery Marchino was named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division I Player of the Year, while two other Lady Saints also earned postseason recognition from the league.

Marchino earned first-team all-conference honors in addition to the player of the year award. Sophomore Destiny Alexander and redshirt freshman Kimora Fagan were named honorable mention selections.

Marchino becomes the first Seward women's basketball player to receive player of the year honors in five seasons. Sierra Morrow earned KJCCC West MVP following the 2020-21 campaign. Marchino is also the first Lady Saint to be named player of the year since the conference shifted from East and West divisions to Division I and Division II.

Marchino led the conference with 20.6 points per game overall and averaged 20.5 points per game in league play. She also contributed 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 81.6% from the free-throw line. She ranked third in the conference in 3-point percentage (41.2%) and fourth in free-throw percentage (81.6%). Marchino also led the league in free-throw attempts (201) and free throws made (164).

Alexander turned in a strong sophomore campaign, averaging 9.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game after posting 3.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a freshman. She led the conference with an 88.4% mark from the free-throw line.

Fagan ranked second on the team with 12.1 points per game and added 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest. She recorded four 20-point games during the season and finished the year with at least 13 points in each of the final four games. Fagan scored a career-high 25 points in a road win at Cowley.
