SCCC Foundation Launches Capital Campaign for French Family Field Renovations
LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Foundation has announced a capital campaign to support renovations to French Family Field, the on-campus home of the Saints softball program.
The campaign follows the Foundation's receipt of several significant gifts to enhance the facility. Planned improvements include installing a full artificial turf playing surface to replace the existing dirt-and-grass field, along with upgrades to the fencing surrounding the complex.
SCCC Associate Vice President for Athletics Cody Cole said that the improvements will bolster the student-athlete experience and provide a more consistent and durable playing surface for competition and practice.
"We are incredibly excited to kick off this campaign in support of French Family Field and the future of Seward softball," said Cole. "The early pledges we have received speak volumes about the people in our community and their willingness to help pour into our programs and keep the Saints competitive. This upgrade will not only elevate the look of the complex, but more importantly, will improve our student-athletes' development."
Seward softball has played at French Family Field since the program's inception in 1999. The facility was originally constructed for baseball prior to the addition of the softball program.
First-year head coach Kimber Cortemelia is eager about the trajectory of her program and the future of French Family Field.
"I'm absolutely fired up for what this campaign means for Saints Softball," said Cortemelia. "This is a huge step forward for our program, our players, and everyone who believes in where we're headed. We're so excited for the future and grateful for every bit of support that helps make it happen."
A generous matching gift from Bill French will match donations up to $100,000, giving Saints supporters an opportunity to maximize their impact. French and his company, French Family Construction, have contributed countless dollars and man-hours to upgrading the complex over the years, including the construction of the press box.
"We are stepping up to the plate with a $100,000 Giving Day goal – and thanks to this incredible match, every donation is a home run for our softball program," said Foundation Development Officer Becki Richardson. "This is a chance for our community to knock it out of the park together!"
The Saints softball team will host Colby Community College on SCCC Giving Day, Wednesday, April 22, at French Family Field with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. In between games of the doubleheader, the college will recognize Bill French for his contributions and commitment to the program and the college.
